Mark Certificates are a new, innovative type of digital certificate that allows companies to place a certified brand logo next to the “Sender” field in customer inboxes—even before the message is opened. It's a way to show customers that the email is really from your brand. This makes it so that customers can recognize and trust your messages right away. In supported email clients, Verified Mark Certificate can also activate a blue checkmark to indicate verified sender status.
Build trust and email security with DigiCert Verified Mark Certificates
Increase email delivery, open rates, and prevent email attacks by displaying your authenticated logo in every inbox.
What is a Verified Mark Certificate and Why You Need One
The Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) is a digital certificate that allows an organization to display their trademarked logo next to the "sender" field in email inboxes, providing instant brand recognition and helping to protect against phishing and spoofing attacks. When you purchase a Verified Mark Certificate, you're investing in your brand's credibility and security.
DigiCert VMC Certificates work alongside email authentication standards (BIMI, DMARC) to provide recipients with an instant, visual indication that your email is authentic.

Make Your Mark On Emails With New Digital Certificates That Showcase Your Brand, Improve Security, and Boost Engagement
DigiCert Verified Mark Certificate (VMC)

A Verified Mark Certificate represents the premium tier of email authentication. This solution requires a registered trademark and provides the highest level of brand protection available.
When you implement a Verified Mark Certificate, your logo is displayed in the inboxes of email clients that support BIMI, like Gmail, Apple Mail, Yahoo Mail, Zoho Mail, and other compatible email providers. VMC also enables a blue verified checkmark in Gmail and in supported email clients.
Choose VMC if:
- Your company has a registered trademark or a government-authorized mark
- You need the blue verified checkmark in supported email clients
- Full BIMI compliance is critical for maximum email trust
- Brand protection is extremely important
- You need more compatibility (Gmail, Apple Mail, Yahoo Mail, and others)
DigiCert Common Mark Certificate (CMC)

A Common Mark Certificate offers an accessible path to email branding without requiring a registered trademark. This solution is perfect for startups, small businesses, and organizations that have been using their logo for at least 12 months.
The CMC allows businesses to show their non-trademarked logos in email inboxes, but only on Gmail and Yahoo Mail at moment.
Choose CMC if:
- Your company doesn't have a registered trademark
- Your non trademarked logo has 12+ months of public use
- You want to use a modified, trademarked logo
- Basic email branding is sufficient (basic BIMI compliance)
- The compatibility with only Gmail and Yahoo Mail is sufficient
DigiCert Mark Certificates Benefits & Features
The benefits of Mark Certificates extend far beyond simple logo display.
Mark certificates create a email security and branding solution that drives measurable business results.
Trust and Instant Brand Recognition
Display your verified logo next to the "sender" field in customer inboxes — even before the message is opened.
When recipients see your logo in their inbox, they immediately recognize your brand, distinguishing your messages from anonymous senders.
Blue Checkmark in Gmail
When you use a DigiCert VMC with your trademarked logo and DMARC is enforced on your domain, a blue verified checkmark will appear next to the sender's name in Gmail inboxes.
The blue checkmark indicates that the email has been authenticated and the brand has been verified.
Boosts Email Open Rates
Emails that display logos signal visual trust and stand out from others, making recipients more likely to open and interact with your emails. This can result in higher click-through rates and better email performance.
A Verizon media study showed a 10+% increase in engagement.
Enhance Email Security
Since Mark Certificates require you to verify that you use strong email authentication standards, your organization will also benefit from increased security, visibility, and deliverability.
Protects from phishing and spoofing: By displaying a verified logo in email inboxes, recipients can immediately recognize your email as legitimate.
Improve Email Deliverability
Verified Mark Certificates secure your emails and boost deliverability and visibility. They do this by verifying that your domain meets the highest authentication standards, including BIMI, DMARC, SPF, and DKIM.
Verified emails are much more likely to pass through spam filters, ensuring that your emails actually reach your customers' inboxes and are not rejected as spam.

Prepare your logo in SVG
Convert your trademark logo to SVG Tiny 1.2 format, as required by BIMI standards. This specific SVG type allows secure, lightweight, and accurate rendering in supported email clients.
Complete Validation Checks
Provide required documentation for trademark ownership and organization validation. DigiCert cannot issue a certificate before completing industry-required validation.
Complete the DNS configuration for your domain
Set your DMARC policy to “quarantine” or “reject,” and make sure SPF and DKIM are properly configured.
Receive and install your Mark Certificate
Your Mark Certificate will be issued once validation is successful. You can then publish your BIMI DNS record, linking to your logo and certificate.
Keep your Mark Certificate active
After completing all steps, your registered logo will appear in compatible email clients. VMC will also display the blue verified checkmark. Regularly monitor DMARC compliance to prevent issues, and renew your Mark Certificate before it expires to maintain visibility.

Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC) is an email authentication policy that builds on SPF and DKIM protocols. It adds linkage to the author, published policies for recipient handling of authentication failures, and reporting from receivers to senders, in order to improve visibility and offer additional protection of the domain from fraudulent phishing and spoofing attacks.
A DMARC record, published in a domain's DNS, allows domain owners to instruct receivers to either take no action, quarantine, or reject emails that fail SPF and DKIM authentication.
DMARC gives security professionals more transparency and better control to accurately identify and then block or quarantine fraudulent emails more quickly. It’s a smart, commonsense standard that helps to protect both consumers and brands.
BIMI stands for "Brand Indicators for Message Identification" and is an email specification that enables brand logos to be displayed within supporting email clients, encouraging the widespread deployment of DMARC protection.
Mark Certificates operate in alignment with the Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) email specification, which, in combination with Domain-Based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC), provides end-to-end authentication of emails. DigiCert Mark Certificates serve as the foundation for BIMI implementation, providing the necessary trust to confirm that the logo and email domain are owned by the same organization and that the domain is authentic.
Mark Certificate + DMARC enforcement + BIMI = Logo-verified Email
The email client validates your organization’s DMARC enforcement via confirmation of your BIMI record and VMC-ensconced logo. If everything checks out, your logo will be displayed, serving as a visual indicator of your message’s authenticity and increasing engagement and brand recognition.
No, Mark certificates do not digitally sign emails or encrypt message content.
To increase the security, confidentiality, and integrity of your email communications by digitally signing and encrypting your messages, buy a S/MIME Email Certificate.
The S/MIME Certificate is the perfect addition to the Mark certificate. Together, they increase the security, reliability, and privacy of your emails.
You need to have your logo trademarked with an “Active” status in either of these listed Offices:
- United States (US): United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- Canada (CA): Canadian Intellectual Property Office
- European Union (EM): European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)
- United Kingdom (GB): UK Intellectual Property Office
- Germany (DE): Deutsches Patent- und Markenamt
- Japan (JP): Japan Trademark Office
- Australia (AU): IP Australia
- Spain (ES): Oficina Española de Patentes y Marcas
- South Korea (KR): Korean Intellectual Property Office
- Brazil (BR): Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI)
- India (IN): Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & TradeMarks
- Switzerland (CH): Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property
- Denmark (DK): Danish Patent and Trademark Office Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs

The validation process for Mark Certificates follows the same Extended Validation Certificate requirements used for SSL Certificates, with a few added steps for additional security:
- Organization validation: Legal and operational existence, physical address and phone number verification.
- Confirm your trademark is legally registered or is a government seal.
- Video Call with a member of DigiCert's validation team to validate the person's identity requesting the Mark Certificate.
- Domain Ownership: You must prove ownership of the email domain to which the Mark Certificate is being issued.
Once the registered logo has been submitted in the correct format, DMARC has been configured correctly, all necessary documents have been submitted, and company and applicant validation has been completed, DigiCert will issue the Mark Certificate within 3 to 5 business days. The faster the validation steps are completed, the sooner you will have your Mark Certificate ready to use.
Your Mark Certificate will remain valid, but your logo will not display. In order to continue to display your logo, you must be actively enforcing DMARC, as indicated by your BIMI record.
Mark Certificates do not act like a typical TLS certificate. They do not encrypt traffic, use a private key or require a CSR to order. Mark Certificates assert a cryptographically verifiable and auditable binding between an identity, a logo, and a domain. This ensures that the identified organization is operating on a domain that they own when sending emails to end-users.
Like TLS/SSL certificates, the maximum validity period for a Brand Certificate is 397 days. With our 2- and 3-year subscription plans, we will notify you when it is time to renew, and automatically issue a valid certificate before your current certificate expires.
